Charles E. Barnes, “Charlie, Chuckâ€? 76, of Augusta, went to live with Jesus on Sunday, July 28, 2013 after a short battle with brain cancer.Â
Charles Edward Barnes was born Aug. 18, 1936 in Steger, Illinois, son of Ellis and Mary (Zilligen) Barnes. He was raised in Harvey, IL, before moving to New Auburn in 1947, where he graduated from high school in 1954. He married Marion Wuethrick in 1956, in Rice Lake, and to this union five children where born. Throughout Charles’ career he was the manger of various grocery stores, including Link Brothers in Eau Claire, several Farmer Stores, Freedom Foods, Pabich’s Market in Thorp, and John’s IGA in Augusta. He had also worked as a sales rep for Roberts Farmhouse Foods and Hub City Foods. Charles was a wonderful mentor who always championed the underdog and had a wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, deer hunting, wood carving, golfing, going to auctions, socializing at Grunewald’s Store in Ludington and DJ’s in Cadott, and especially the time spent with his family. Â
Charles is survived by his fiancée of many years, Jane Weggen of Fall Creek; five children, Joan (Johnson) Rehberg of Eau Claire, Jean (Bob) Schultz of Stevens Point, Jodi (Mike) Miller of El Cajon, CA, Jeff (Sheila) Barnes of Solon Springs, Jason Barnes and fiancée, Amy Much of Eau Claire; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; brother Donald (Gloria) Barnes of Augusta; sister Suzanne Causier of Eau Claire; brother-in-law, Art Roach of Eau Claire; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Eileen Biegel of Eau Claire, and Don and Diane Weggen of Stanley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Mary Barnes, sister Zeta Roach, granddaughter Sara Guinn, sons-in-law, Eric R. Johnson and Mark Rehberg and nephew Scott Pederson. Â
A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2013, from 3:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 5, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ludington Township between the intersections of County Road D and State Highway 27. A visitation will also be held one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Â
Memorials may be given to the Zeta Barnes Roach Education Foundation or Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Fall Creek.
Charles will be greatly missed by many.Â
