Gordon Dewitz
Gordon J. Dewitz, 88, of rural Osseo, passed away at his home on Monday, December 16, 2013. 

Gordon John Dewitz, son of Edward and Frances (Finlayson) Dewitz was born Dec. 14, 1925 in Eau Claire County. As an infant his family moved to their farm in Clear Creek Township rural Foster. Gordon was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eau Claire and confirmed at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Foster, where he was a life long member. He attended school in Foster and graduated from Lincoln Hill High School in Osseo. During and after high school he worked on the family farm and hauled milk with his father. He was united in marriage to Verna Sell on Sept. 6, 1958 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Foster. Gordon had worked at Presto Industries in Eau Claire before his 30 years employment with Chicago Northwestern Railroad, working in Altoona as a mechanic in the roundhouse. During this time he also worked his hobby farm in Foster with his family. For a number of years after his retirement he worked the fall harvest for Minto's Eau Claire Orchard. Gordon had served as church treasurer for St. Luke's Lutheran Church and organized and was president of its youth group. Over the years he had also served as treasurer for the Local Railroad Union. Through the years he had enjoyed his hobby farm, especially raising chickens and fishing with his children.  

Gordon will be deeply missed by Verna, his wife of 55 years; 2 daughters, Diane (Harvey) Horel of Augusta, Brenda (Brian) Melsness of Osseo; 3 sons, Dave (Stephanie) Dewitz of Mosinee, Tim (Nancy) Dewitz , Tom (Barbara) Dewitz all of Foster; brother, Loren (Bonee) Dewitz of Eau Claire; brothers-in-law, Harold Matz, Marty Sell both of Eau Claire; 9 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lois Matz and brother Vernon and wife Hope Dewitz. 

Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Foster with Pastor Lamoine Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
