Dale L. Dignin Sr., 80, of 210 E. Division St. Neillsville, WI, formerly of Humbird, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, WI.
Dale Leo Dignin, son of Jerome Leo and Laura Bell (Tubbs) Dignin, was born Jan. 20, 1933 in Humbird, Wisconsin. He was raised in the Humbird area where he attended school. He entered the United States Navy in Dec. of 1952, and served during the Korean Conflict. Dale was proud of his service to his country and enjoyed the time he spent aboard the USS Ashland (LSD-1) and was fortunate to have docked at various ports throughout the world. While in the Navy he met Donna Louise Dowd of Iowa, and the couple later married on June 10th, 1955 in Camden N.J. When Dale was honorably discharge he and his wife settled in Ottumwa, Iowa, where he was employed by the city of Ottumwa for 27 years. When he retired he was the maintenance supervisor at the Ottumwa Industrial Airport. While in Ottumwa, he was a member of the V.F.W. Post 775. In his younger years he enjoyed small game hunting in Iowa, especially pheasant hunting. Thirteen years ago, Dale wanted to return to Wisconsin, so he and Donna settled in Neillsville. During his retirement he enjoyed reading western novels and when his eyesight failed him he enjoyed listening to western on audio tapes. Â
Dale will be deeply missed by Donna, his wife of 57 years; sons, Dale Jr., “Leeâ€? and his wife, Elizabeth Dignin of Ottumwa; 3 daughters, Robin and her husband, Sam Craven of Ottumwa, Farron Dignin of Marshfield, WI, and Lezlea Findley of Ottumwa; sister, Betty Jean Austin of Aubrey, Texas; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Jamie and siblings, Theo Blom, Bill, Bob and Lynn Dignin. Â
A visitation for Dale will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. Burial services will be held next week in the Ottumwa City Cemetery in Otumwa, Iowa.Â
