Alwin A. Foldy, “Al”, 74, of rural Fall Creek, passed away in hospice care at his home with his children by his side on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013.
Alwin Allen Foldy, son of Arthur and Agnes (Mattheisen) Foldy was born May 22, 1939 in Wilson Township, Eau Claire County. He attended South Warden and Grand View Country Schools before moving with his family to Waukesha. As a teenager he returned to Wilson Township and graduated from Augusta High School in 1956. Following graduation he enlisted in the National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1963 after serving 4 years. Al was united in marriage to Alice Raether on June 21, 1958 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ludington, and to this union their 2 children were born. The couple lived for a time in Milwaukee, before moving to Ludington Township, rural Fall Creek. After moving back to Eau Claire County, Al was employed by National Presto Industries - Ammunition Plant until 1976. During this time he had also worked for Lamont Knuth, who owned and operated Lakeside Implement in Augusta. In 1976, Al purchased his own semi truck and for nearly 20 years drove for Warren’s Transport out of Waterloo, Iowa. When he fully retired from driving truck 4 years ago, he was with Brunzlick Trucking Company of Augusta. Al enjoyed riding motorcycle, hunting and restoring old vehicles.
In his younger years he spent many enjoyable hours snowmobiling. He raced snowmobiles locally and also participated in the Winnipeg to St. Paul cross country races.
In recent years, his racing enthusiasm revolved around watching his grandson Jesse drive locally with his modified racing team. Al especially enjoyed going out for breakfast with family and friends and the camaraderie that went with it.
Al will be deeply missed by his son Russ and Tamee Foldy of Cadott; daughter Kristalynn Glenz of Altoona; 3 grandchildren, Jesse Glenz, Ethan and Aubree Foldy; sister Lois and Don Woods of Texas; other relatives and many friends.
Al was preceded in death by his mother on Dec. 24, 1995, father on July 18, 1980, brothers, Gene on June 3, 1992, and Lyle “Bud” on Oct. 12, 1992.
Funeral services will be held Wed. Aug. 21, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with burial at a later date. Friends may call 2 hours prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Mayo Clinic Hospice, Patty Volbrecht and Dan Aiken for their wonderful care and friendship shown to Al during his illness. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
