Roger E. Guse, 68, of 513 N. Stone Street, Augusta, passed away very peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Friday, March 8, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Roger Everett Guse, son of Everett and Rosamond (Glenz) Guse was born Monday, August 7, 1944 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Roger was raised with his sister in Ludington Township, Eau Claire County, where he attended Oakridge Country School and was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Roger graduated from Augusta High School in 1962. Nancy Randall was a young teenager when Roger began teasing her in high school, the couple were eventually united in marriage on November 7, 1964 at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta.Â
Roger’s interest in machining took him to Rockford, Illinois, where he worked 4 years for Ingersoll Milling Machine Company, before moving to Hopkins, Minnesota where he was employed by Honeywell. Roger and Nancy returned to Augusta, where they raised their 2 children and Roger worked at various jobs in the area. In 1986, he started his own custom machine shop in his garage which he called M.R.S. In 1989 his son Matthew joined him in the business and together they grew it and moved it to a building on Lincoln Street in Augusta, before moving to its present location in the Augusta Industrial Park. The business that he first started in his small garage now employs 50 people which got to be nationally known in 2007 as one of the top 10 machine shops in the country. Through out the years, training meant a lot to Roger. Recently, Roger donated a lot of time and equipment to the Eleva-Strum High School. He was awarded a Department of Public Instruction Award from the State of WI for his involvement with the school.Â
One of Roger’s greatest privileges was serving as Mayor of Augusta. He enjoyed helping the community that he had been a part of for so long. He wanted to make Augusta a better place.
In Roger’s spare time he enjoyed making woodworking projects to give to family and friends, collecting and working on old cars, and traveling with his family. One of his favorite spots was Duluth, Minnesota. He also loved preparing delicious stir fries, cream puffs, and many things on the grill. Roger spent relaxing hours reading, especially books relating to history and business. If you knew Roger, you knew of his never ending sense of humor.
Roger was an extremely giving man and truly lived his life by a famous quote, “God gave us two hands: one for helping others and one for helping ourselves.â€?Â
Twenty five years ago, Roger suffered a massive heart attack and experienced heaven, but through the grace of God, he came back to us. This was a life changing experience for Roger, one that he viewed as the best thing that could have ever happened to him. In the last twenty five years God gave him, he enjoyed every day and took time to appreciate every sunrise and sunset. He was more aware than ever of his love of God, his wife, family, many friends and family at M.R.S.
Roger will be deeply missed by Nancy, his wife of 48 years; daughter, Melinda and John Rud of Rochester, MN; son, Matthew and Vicki Guse of Augusta; 4 very beloved grandchildren, Micaela Rud, Dylan Guse, Cassie Guse and Hannah Rud; sister, Janice and Art Quimby of Eagan, MN; aunts and uncles, Charles and Leona Glenz of Milwaukee, Patricia Douglas of Eau Claire, Richard and (Carol Sue) Glenz of Eau Claire; brother and sisters-in-law, Tom and Peggy Randall, and Janet Harke, all of Augusta, and their families; other relatives, and many friends.
