Helen Lane
Helen L. Lane, 86, of Augusta, beloved wife and mother was surrounded by her family and holding hands with her husband on Wed. Nov. 13, 2013, when she was carried from this life into the arms of her beloved Lord and Savior.

Helen Louise Lane was born Nov. 3, 1927 in Cleghorn, WI, to Gustave and Wilhelmina “Minnie” (Hartl) Dewitz. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Cleghorn and attended Hillside Country School and Fall Creek High School. Helen was united in marriage to Victor Lane on Sept. 24, 1944 in Fall Creek, together the couple shared 69 years of marriage. They began their life together in Ludington Township before moving into the village of Fall Creek in 1952. From 1968 until 1990 they farmed in the Fall Creek area before moving to the city of Augusta. In addition to raising her family and helping on the farms, Helen worked along side Vic with V & H Transport and V & H Animal Health Products; taking care of the books, delivering products, always helping wherever needed.

With her 8 children she planted many large gardens and canned much of her harvests. She was famous for her pickles, especially her hot pickles and delicious pies, as she was also an excellent cook and baker. Helen had always been a thoughtful caregiver, not only taking care of her own children but also taking into her home Vic’s mother, father and brother-in-law when they needed to be cared for. Due to her kindness she was deeply loved and admired by her mother-in-law. Helen especially looked forward to the 1st. Wednesday of the month trips to Eau Claire with her sister Esther. She also enjoyed the lunches she share with her two sisters and aunts, Mary, Lizzy and Lilly During the summer months Helen loved to attend parades and watching them with Tootie Marten only made them more enjoyable.

Helen’s deep faith kept her going all throughout her life. She had been a member of the Evangelical Church in Fall Creek where she taught vacation bible school and was currently attending the Osseo Community Church.

Helen will be dearly missed by Vic, her husband and the love of her life for 69 years; 8 children, Patricia “Trish” (Denny) Streveler of Eau Claire, Phyllis (Greg) Pettis of Huron, S.D., Connie (Neil) McCoy of Inver Grove Heights, MN, Jackie Husting of Menomonie, John (Kathy) Lane of Aurora, CO, Bobbi (Fred) Winkler of Prescott, Dan (Patsy) Lane of Polk City, IA, Judy Lane (Mike Sedahl) of Altoona; 16 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren; sister, Margaret Oliver of Eau Claire; sisters-in-law, June Dewitz of Eau Claire, Ruth Dewitz of Muskego; 2 special nieces, Jan Dunkelburger and Jill Olson and many other nieces, nephews and friends that loved her.
