Dorothy L. Seif, age 97, of Marshfield, WI (formerly of Augusta) died on November 18, 2013, at her home.
Dorothy Louise Dankemeyer was born on February 5, 1916 at home in rural Chili, WI to Freeman William and Elsie Pauline (Krause) Dankemeyer. She attended grade school at the Big Four School in Clark County. She attended Purdy Junior High School in Marshfield, and graduated from McKinley High School in 1932. Dorothy attended a one-year teacher-training program in Neillsville and taught at Valley View, a one room Clark County schoolhouse, for three years. During that time, she also attended teacher’s training at River Falls State College.
She married Chester E. Seif on March 27, 1937 in Galena, Illinois. Chester was engaged in business with his father Charles and brother D. Dale Seif operating
C.E. Seif and Sons International Harvester dealerships in Neillsville and Augusta. Dorothy and Chester moved to Augusta in 1937 and managed that dealership. They later purchased the business and operated it until their retirement in 1978.
Dorothy was active in the Augusta Women’s Club. She was an avid bridge player, and at one time, belonged to three bridge clubs. She was elected to the School Board of the Augusta School District and served from 1957 to 1959. In 1958, she was appointed to a three-year term on the Area Advisory Committee for Wisconsin State College at Eau Claire by college President Leonard Haas. She was a substitute teacher in the Augusta School District for many years. She enjoyed time with family, traveling, snowmobiling and doing needlework. She was an avid Packer and Cubs fan.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Ristow of Pullman, Washington, and Marilyn (Robert) Workinger of Marshfield, WI, and is further survived by grandchildren, Stephanie (Mark) Atkinson of Everett, Washington and Charles (Claire) Workinger of South Whitley, Indiana. Three great-grandchildren, Duncan Atkinson, Sophie Atkinson and Timothy Workinger, also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Chester in 1982, brothers Gerald and Donald, sisters Natalie and Ruth, and son-in-law, John Ristow.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, WI. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Amanda Burke, Director of Youth and Family Ministry, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, WI will officiate. Interment will follow in West Lawn Cemetery.
