Donald Young
Donald M. Young, 84, of rural Osseo, passed away at his home, Monday evening, Jan. 14, 2013.

Donald Merle Young, son of Frank and Mary (Sherman) Young, was born Aug. 24, 1928 in Libertyville, Illinois. He was raised in Libertyville until moving to Waukegan, where he graduated from high school. On Sept. 5, 1953, he was united in marriage to Clare Piklar at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Waukegan. At this time Don became a member of the catholic church. The couple lived for a few years in the Chicago area before moving to Lake Villa, Illinois, where he owned and operated Young Trucking Company. In 1969, he moved his family to rural Osseo, where he continued to operate his trucking business. In 1982, in addition to driving, Don established Northland Diesel just east of Osseo. He operated the diesel repair service until selling to his sons in 1986, but continued to drive cross- country semi until ill health forced him to fully retire in 2005.

Don had been a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Augusta, and currently at St. Raymond of Penafort Catholic Church in Brackett. He was active with the local Knights of Columbus, having earned the 4th. Degree. Don enjoyed trucking, working on them and talking about his travels but he was also fond of his dogs, collecting antique cars and going to swap meets. For 25 years, Don and Clare spent the winters in Sun City, Arizona, where they were members of the Sun City Car Club and truly enjoyed the time traveling and socializing with other club members. Back in the Osseo area, Don could be spotted almost anywhere visiting on his golf cart.

Don is survived by his wife, Clare of rural Osseo; 3 daughters, Sandy (Larry) Zauberis of Durango, CO, Kathy Severson of Osseo, Laura (David) Doss of Wauwatosa; 2 sons, Mike (Beth) Young and Tom (Teresa) Young all of Osseo; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 siblings, daughter Clare in infancy and son, Don Jr. in 1993.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Raymond of Penafort Catholic Church, rural Fall Creek, with Father Derek Sakowski officiating.

Burial will be in Holy Guardian Angels Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and one hour prior to services Friday at the church. A prayer service will be held Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
