Fred C. Bertram, 89, formerly of Fairchild, and currently of St. Francis Apartments in Eau Claire, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014 at the Clairemont Nursing and Rehabilitation in Eau Claire.
Fred Charles Bertram, son of Alexander and Catherine (Kaiser) Bertram was born Dec. 24, 1924 in Kenosha, WI. As a child he moved with his family to Milwaukee, where he was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church. He attended St. John’s Parochial School and graduated from North Division High School. During W.W. II, Fred served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Ganymede Crater-class cargo ship. After his honorable discharge he returned to Milwaukee, where he was united in marriage to Aurelia Jeske in 1948, to this union their 3 sons were born. After Aurelia passed away he married Rosalie Frister on July 15, 1961, and with Rosalie, Fred was blessed with the birth of 2 more sons. The couple raised their 5 boys in Milwaukee, where Fred worked as a welder for A.O. Smith. When he retired in 1976, Fred, Rosalie and the three youngest sons moved to Fairchild, where they were members of St. John’s Catholic Church. Fred had been a member of the V.F.W. and enjoyed woodworking, making furniture, cupboards and remodeling. In December of 2012, the couple moved to St. Francis Apartments in Eau Claire.
Fred will be dearly missed by his wife, Rosalie of Eau Claire; 5 sons, Fred (Laurie) of Hastings, MN, Charles of Henderson, NV, Brian of Fairchild, Robert of River Falls, Paul (Diane) of Chippewa Falls; 3 grandchildren, Fred Bertram, Michael (Heather) Bertram and Krista (Andy) Geipel; 5 great grandchildren, Micah, Abby, Haley and Owen Bertram, Claire Geipel; and by his sister, Esther Bergman of West Bend, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Alex, Bill and Henry Bertram, Anna Bub, Julia Meier, Lena Nemec, Mildred Bizjak and Katie Becker.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fairchild, with Father David Rybick officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the church cemetery. Friends may call 1 hour before services at the church on Saturday. The family is assisted by the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
