Harriet A. Kirkham, 93, of Fall Creek, passed away late Friday evening, Sept. 26, 2014 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
Harriet Arlene Kirkham, daughter of Herman and Clara (Green) Strauch was born Jan. 9, 1921 in Augusta, and was baptized the following month on Feb. 13th at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta. At the age of seven she moved with her family to Fall Creek, where she was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, attended Fall Creek Elementary School and in 1938 graduated from Fall Creek High School. After high school she began her employment at Gillette Tire Company in Eau Claire, working in the office as a bookkeeper. On May 17, 1947, she was united in marriage to Gene Kirkham at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church parsonage in Fall Creek. After her marriage Harriet left her office job to raise her family and then seven years later she started in the office of the Fall Creek Co-op Elevator Company, working there until 1979. Not wanting to fully retire, she worked a few years in the hot lunch program at Fall Creek Elementary School and later,through the school system she delivered meals on wheels for 2 years. Since her confirmation Harriet was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fall Creek, where she was active with the Ladies Fellowship, Senior Fellowship, taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible school, worked with the clothing project known as the “Grain Train” and sewed quilts for Christian World Relief. Harriet also enjoyed reading, playing Hand and Foot, 500 and various other card games. She especially enjoyed her daily walks.
Harriet will be deeply missed by her 2 daughters, Susan and Robert Lipke of Fall Creek, Diane Friedrich of Rice Lake; 2 grandsons, Bradley and Julie Lipke, Jeffery Lipke; and 3 great granddaughters, McKenna, Megan and Arin Lipke. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene on May 1, 1994, 3 brothers, Lyle, Gordon and Francis Strauch, and son-in-law, Dennis Friedrich.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fall Creek, with Pastor Larry Borgelt officiating. Burial will be in the Trinity Cemetery in Fall Creek. A visitation will begin on Tuesday at the church starting at 9:30 a.m. The family is assisted by the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
