Edward Marifke, 77, of rural Augusta, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire.
Edward George Marifke, son of Edward and Marie (Studer) Marifke Sr. was born June 16, 1937 in the Town of Lake, presently Milwaukee. He was raised in Milwaukee, where he was baptized and confirmed at St. Veronica’s Catholic Church, attended St. Veronica’s Grade School and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1955. He had also attended Marquette University. Eddie was employed by Allis-Chalmers in Milwaukee, before entering the United States Army. Edie served at Fort Hood, Texas, from December of 1960 until his active discharge in December of 1962. He was discharged from reserved obligation in December of 1966. Following his 1962 discharge he returned to Milwaukee, where he worked an additional 13 years with Allis-Chalmers. On June 18, 1966 he was united in marriage to Alexandra “Sandy” Bonczkowski at Gesu Catholic Church in Milwaukee. The couple lived in Milwaukee until 1967 when they moved to Wind Lake, Wisconsin, Racine County. In the mid-1970’s Eddie took employment as a designer draftsman for George Meyer Inc. in Cudahy, working there until it closed in 1986. For the next ten years until his retirement in 1996, he was working for the Bancroft Corporation in Waukesha. Through the years Eddie and Sandy vacationed on their land just east of Augusta, and permanently moved there in September of 1999. Eddie was a member of the Bong Model Airplane Club in Milwaukee, he enjoyed building model planes, collecting N gauge model trains and also hunting and fishing.
Eddie will be deeply missed by Sandy, his wife of 48 years;
3 brothers, Ronald Marifke of Wind Lake, Robert (Lynn) Marifke of Burlington, Gerard (Mary Ellen) Marifke and their two sons, Tyler and Derek of Elkhorn; mother-in-law, Cecilia Bonczkowski of Milwaukee; and canine companion Buster. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with Pastor Dale Hazard officiating. Burial with military rites by the Augusta area veterans will be held in the East Lawn Cemetery in Augusta. Friends may call 1 hour prior to services on Friday at the funeral home.
