Donald Perkovich, 83, of rural Augusta, passed away suddenly at his home on Monday, May 26, 2014.
Donald Duane, son of Matt and Myrtle (Bell) Perkovich was born Aug. 2, 1930 in Eau Claire. He married Dorothy Von Haden on Feb. 21, 1953 at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta, where on March 22, 1953 he became a confirmed member. Don and Dorothy lived most of their married life in rural Augusta. In 1963 they purchased the Rodell Country School that they turned into their home and established the Rodell Garage Repair and Wrecker Service, which they operated for over 40 years. Don was often heard stating, “I love driving Fords, but also love Dodge and Chevys because they keep me busy.”
Don enjoyed his profession, fixing cars, tractors and other machinery. He treasured the time spent with his tow trucks and Ford tractor, this time was never considered work to him. When Don wasn’t working his other favorite past time was fishing; with family and friends he went on numerous enjoyable fishing trips to Canada.
Don is survived by Dorothy his wife of 61 years; daughter Carol (Larry) Myhre of Augusta; 3 sons, John( Taby) Perkovich, Jim Perkovich all of Soldotna, Alaska, Joe (Kris) Perkovich of Fall Creek; sister Barbara Huff of Fall Creek;, brothers and sisters-in-law, Barbara Anderson of Cadott, Esther Stelter of Bloomer, John Von Haden of Augusta, Jim Von Haden of Fall Creek, Pat Von Haden of Chippewa Falls, Joy Von Haden of Osseo; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Betty Krumenauer, Marie Hagen, Rosie Rau, Anton and George Perkovich, and great grandson, Devean Hinton.
Funeral services will be held Sat. May 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta, with Pastor Wessel officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the West Lawn Cemetery, Augusta. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
