Harvey Zimmerman, age 91, of rural Fall Creek was called Home early on Friday evening, May 16, 2014 at the Fall Creek Valley Care Center.
Harvey David Zimmerman was born on October 18, 1922, on the family farm to August and Olga (Gust) Zimmerman. He was baptized on November 7, 1922 and confirmed on May 31, 1936 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Fall Creek, where he was a lifelong member. He attended Jobs School in the Town of Washington, graduating from the eighth grade and then returned home to work on the farm.
On June 2, 1945, Harvey married Irene Elsie Molke at Zion Lutheran Church, Cleghorn. Together, Harvey and Irene shared 63 years of marriage and were blessed with the gift of 3 children. Irene went to her Savior on Sunday, June 22, 2008.
After hauling milk for a time, Harvey and Irene started their farming first in the Town of Washington and in 1952 moved to “their” farm in the Town of Lincoln. Off of the farm, Harvey enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing dartball, throwing horseshoes and playing cards. He and Irene also loved to dance to old time music. Singing hymns and listening to old time music added enjoyment to his days. Harvey also served on several community and church boards and was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church for his whole life. Harvey loved to spend time with his family but above all, he had a love of his Savior and was a witness of his faith up to the end.
Harvey is survived by his three children, daughter, Ruth (Garold) Bauer of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Dean (Debra) Zimmerman of Fall Creek, Dawn (Dayle) Travis of Augusta; seven grandchildren, Chad (Sharon) Bauer, Jennie (Erik) Mornes, Jamie (Darin) Noel, Lacie (Matthew) Orysen, Kayce (Jacob) Haas, Justin (Amanda Boyea) Travis and Karley Travis; seven great grandchildren, Kendel and Cash Noel, Oskar and Esme Mornes, Allie and Tenley Haas and Callen Orysen.
