Penny L. Gurnee, 69, of rural Fairchild, passed away Friday evening, May 1, 2015, at the Fall Creek Valley Nursing Home in the care of St. Croix Hospice.
Penny, daughter of Raymond and Dolores (Armstrong) Frazee was born April 22, 1946, in Byron , Michigan. She was raise on dairy farms in the Byron and Swartz Creek area of Michigan. At a young age she worked as a waitress in the famous Zehnders Restaurant in Frankenmuth, Michigan. She had also lived in California and Ohio, before moving back to Michigan, where she lived from 1972 until 1980. In 1980, Penny and her son moved to the Levis area of rural Fairchild. Loving the Levis area, she remained there until February of 2014, when ill health required the nursing care of the Fall Creek Valley Care Center. While in Ohio, Penny had worked in a factory where they manufactured telephones. After moving to Wisconsin, Penny raised kosher veal, worked on maintenance for the village of Merrillan and was employed in the supportive home health field, working through Pine View Home Health out of Black River Falls. She was employed with Pine View for several years until back issues forced her retirement. Penny had loved spending time outside in her gardens and was always fond of pets. Her most recent pet was her adopted black lab Buddy, that kept her going when her health was deteriorating.
Penny will be dearly missed by her son, Sean and his wife Nancy Gurnee of Pigeon Falls; grandson Sean of Pigeon Falls; mother, Dolores De Moss of Corunna, Michigan; brother, Harold and Christina Frazee of Colby; 3 sisters, Bonnie and Jim Radon of Corunna, Michigan, Terry Lucas of Grand Blanc, Michigan, Laurie and Bernard Holen of Independence and families; aunts, Shirley Williams of Bradenton, Florida, Marie Frazee of Davison, Michigan; and uncle, William Frazee of Oscoda, Michigan.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. at the
Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with burial at a later date in the Levis Cemetery in Garfield Township, Jackson County.
Friends may call 1 hour prior to services Wednesday at the funeral home.
