Violet J. Kaufman, 93, formerly of Fairchild, passed away Friday, morning, January 2, 2015 at the Fall Creek Valley Care Center.
Violet Julia Kaufman , daughter of Andrew and Lena (Nelson) Larson was born April 16, 1921 in the Thompson Valley area of rural Augusta. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Haycreek. As a child she attended Haycreek and Sunnyside Country School and graduated from Fairchild High School. Violet was united in marriage to Lawrence A. Kaufman on July 2, 1938 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Fairview. The couple lived the first few years of their married life in Eau Claire, before moving to their farm in Cleveland Township, rural Fairchild. They eventually moved into the village of Fairchild. With her husband, Violet had owned and operated several taverns in Fairchild. She had also worked in Fairchild, in the laundry departments of the Sunset Nursing Home and Fairchild Care Center. After Lawrence passed away in 1987, she continued to live in Fairchild until November of 2013, when she moved to Fall Creek to be near her son and his family. Since May of 2014, she had been a resident of the Fall Creek Valley Care Center.
Violet is survived by her son, Duane and his wife, Vicki Kaufman of Fall Creek; daughter-in-law, Sharon Kaufman of Fairchild; 13 grandchildren and their families; and brother, Marvin Larson of Eau Claire.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, sons, Joseph and Dennis Kaufman, daughter Rita Pflieger , grandson Corey Kaufman, brothers, Albert, Nathan, Otis, Ben and Lyle Larson, and sisters, Josephine Buessow, Bella Larson, Annie Watson, Ella Terrell and Oviedga Stanley.
A visitation will be held from noon until 2:00 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. Burial will follow immediately at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Cemetery, Fairview, rural Fairchild.
