Betty Nehring, 87, of Augusta, passed away Sunday evening Oct. 11, 2015 at the Augusta Area Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since Feb. 24, 2012.
Betty Ione Nehring, daughter of John and Norma (Berg) Wirth was born Dec. 5, 1927 in Cooks Valley Township, Chippewa County, Wisconsin. She attended school in Bloomer and after high school went on to attend college in Whitewater, where she graduated in 1949. She then worked for the Mondovi and Bloomer School Systems as a teacher for approximately 19 years. After this she was employed as an office worker at the Farmer’s Store in Bloomer until she retired in 1977.
Betty was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer, where she enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was united in marriage to Vyron Martin on Nov. 24, 1961. Betty resided in Bloomer until Vyron’s death in 1980. On April 26, 1981, she married Lawrence Nehring and moved to Augusta. She transferred her membership to Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta, where she sang in the choir and was an active member and treasurer of Grace Ladies Society.
Betty was a cat lover and over the years had several cats as pets and also liked decorating her home with a variety of cats. Betty also collected turkeys and Thanksgiving figurines. Approximately 9 years ago Betty was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Betty and Lawrence enjoyed playing cards and visiting with friends at the Augusta Senior Center on a weekly basis until Betty entered the nursing home. Lawrence passed away on Dec. 6, 2014.
Betty will be dearly missed by her step-son Dale Nehring of Augusta; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Beatrice Nehring of Augusta; nephews and nieces, David Nehring, Roger Nehring (Theresa Ann Beck), Ralph Boettcher, Diane (Bill) Jaeke and Jeanette (Richard) Lange all of Augusta, and their families; several Martin nieces and nephews and their families.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will in the Bloomer Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to the Augusta Nursing Home in Betty’s memory. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the Augusta Area Nursing Home and its’ staff for the excellent care shown to Betty during her stay and providing a home like atmosphere for her and her family. We would also like to thank the Anderson Funeral Home.
