La Vern J. Peterson, 72, of rural Augusta, went home to be with his Lord, on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, passing away at home during his sleep.
La Vern Joseph Peterson, son of Joseph and Eva Mathilda (Christianson) Peterson was born July 19, 1942 in Whitehall. He was raised in rural Osseo, where he attended Eimon Grade School and graduated from Osseo High School in 1960. La Vern was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pigeon Falls, and later transferred his membership to Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church. On Aug. 3, 1963, he was united in marriage to Beverly Von Haden at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta. The couple lived the first 4 years of their married life in Eau Claire, where La Vern was employed by Overhead Door. Wanting to live in rural Augusta, the young couple began working on their home in Bridge Creek Township, where they have lived since 1967. In the late 1960’s, La Vern started his career in construction working for Hong Lumber in Osseo, and then with the construction crew with Lampert Yard in Augusta. In 1972, he joined partnership with John Haugen, the two men owned and operated Quality Construction until retiring in 2008.
La Vern never fully retired, as he still worked on small outside projects, and for family and friends he built furniture, along with various wooden projects as well as beautiful carvings. La Vern’s free time revolved around his family, from supporting his daughters with their school music and sporting activities, to the annual deer hunts and summer camping trips. He also enjoyed the solitude of reading western novels and woodworking magazines. La Vern’s church involvement was important to him, serving several years on the church council of Osseo Evangelical Lutheran, and on the board and past president for Aid Association for Lutherans. La Vern had also been a member of the Osseo Volunteer Fire Department.
La Vern will be dearly missed by Beverly, his wife of 51 years; 3 daughters, Pamela (Gerald) Kintz of Richland Center, Wendy Peterson of Eau Claire, Lisa (David) Bach of Chehalis, WA; 4 grandchildren, Nicole, Kaelen and Bryan Bach, Cody Kintz; sister, Marlene (Harlan) Vold of Pleasantville; brother-in-law, Lawrence Von Haden of Augusta; niece, Julie Vold; nephew, Craig Vold; special friends, Curt and Carol Skoyen and Jenny Feldman; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
