Raymond Norman Raether, 87, of Fall Creek, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at his home with his family by his side.
Raymond was born December 6, 1927 to Norman and Alma (Jaenke) Raether. As an infant, his mother was killed in a car accident with Raymond in her arms. After her death his grandparents, Ferdinand and Anna (Volbrecht) Raether took Raymond into their loving home to raise as their own. His aunts and uncles, Martha (Huth), Louise (Jaenke), Herbert, Leonard, Douglas, Virginia (Smasal, Zich) and Beatrice (Mickelson) became like brothers and sisters to him. His father remarried and to this union he had half brothers and sisters, Jean(Roles), Cecila (Hoff), Carol (Twerberg), Clifford and Gerald.
Raymond married the love of his life, Annabelle Grindle on June 1, 1946.
To this union five children were born, Lorraine Kosakoski of Eau Claire, Joyce Raub of Fall Creek, Kenneth and Carol Raether, Diane and Charles Steuding all of Altoona and Mary and Todd Stanek of Fall Creek.
Raymond farmed and drove cattle truck for Douglas Raether, and they were both well known and respected by the many farmers they served in the Fall Creek area and beyond.
Raymond and Ann enjoyed many happy hours fishing and spending time with family and friends at their place up north by Brill. They also played cards weekly or whenever the opportunity arose. Raymond was known as quite a jokester and always had a story to tell you.
He will be deeply missed by Ann, his loving wife of 68 years; his five children; sister Beatrice Mickelson of Cadott; half sisters, Jean Roles of Fall Creek, Carol Twerberg of California, Cecila Hoff of Georgia; half brother, Gerald and Nancy Raether of Waukesha; grandchildren, Kelly (Matt) Winn of Altoona, Christina Gbejewoh of Woodbury, MN, Charles Raymond Steuding, Dana (Todd) Busch all of Eau Claire, Cade and Tyler Stanek both of Fall Creek; great grandchildren, Justin Duncan of Eau Claire, Anthony Robinson of Fall Creek, Ejaita and Marho Gbejewoh of Woodbury, Matthew Lombardi of Appleton, Henrik and Evelyn Busch, Elleanna Steuding all of Eau Claire. Raymond is further survived by a special uncle, Roland Jaenke of Cadott; sister-in-law, Emma Cooley and brother-in-law, Roger Grindle both of Boyd, sister-in-law, Mary Grindle of Stanley; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, James Kosakoski and grandson, Kevin Kosakoski.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fall Creek, with entombment at a later date in the Trinity Cemetery in Fall Creek. Friends may call Saturday at the church from noon until time of services.
