Eugene Traczek
Eugene Traczek, “Gene”, 82, of rural Fairchild, passed away early Wednesday morning August 5, 2015 at the Augusta Area Nursing Home.

Eugene was born May 6, 1933 in Jadowa, Romania, and it was there that he started elementary school. During World War 2 the Traczek family fled to Germany where Gene finished his education. In 1951 the family eventually moved to United States, settling in Chicago. Gene served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed back near his home town in Germany. After his honorable discharge he returned to Chicago, where for 40 years he was employed as a tool and die maker at Tool and Engineering. On July 15, 1972 he was united in marriage to Margaret “Maggie” Karl in Chicago. After Gene retired on May 29, 1998, the couple moved to their home in rural Fairchild. Due to failing health he entered the Augusta Area Nursing Home in August of 2012.

Gene will be dearly missed by Maggie, his wife of 43 years; step daughter, Ann Marie and Byron Dabels of Georgia; grandson Garrett Godbey; granddaughter Morgan Godbey; sister Hilda Pieger of Grayslake, IL; brother Alfred Traczek of Bollingbrook, IL; sister-in-law, Rozanne Traczek of Fairchild; and several nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his father in December of 1983; mother in October of 1996; brother Frank in April of 2012; and in-laws, Marilyn Traczek and Ludwig Pieger.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2015 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fairchild, with services at 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at a later date. The family is assisted by the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
