Gerald “Jerry” Bertrang, 73, formerly of Fairchild, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016 at Grace Woodlands Memory Care in Eau Claire.
Gerald William Bertrang, son of William and Mabel (Schultz) Bertrang was born Nov. 3, 1942 in Neillsville. As a young man Jerry moved to Racine where he was employed at J.I. Case Corporation. He later worked 9 years in the Labor Union, working in large construction before joining the Operators Engineer Union where he operated heavy equipment. For the majority of his working years he owned and operated Bertrang Logging out of Fairchild, which he operated until his retirement. Jerry was united in marriage to Roxanne Wingert in 1975. The couple had 2 children together a son Chad and daughter Jeri. The couple divorced in 1978 and Jerry remained in Fairchild. He was later married to Catherine Bouillon in 1985, they had one son, Eric.
Jerry loved watching his children and grandchildren in all their school and sport related activities, playing cards, working in his gardens and scrapping throughout the area.
Four years ago Jerry was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and when he was unable to live alone he entered the Augusta Area Nursing Home before entering Grace Woodlands Memory Care in January of 2015. Jerry will be remember as he was before his illness changed his personality; a warm and caring man that would of given you the shirt off his back.
Jerry will be dearly missed by his 2 sons and daughter, Chad Bertrang (Tamara Blom) of Fairchild, Jeri and Andy Sylvester of Cloquet, MN, Eric Bertrang of Fairchild; 2 step children, Nicole Sessions of Eau Claire, Lee Styer of Cedar Rapids, IA; 6 grandchildren, Brady Bertrang, Owen and Ethan Sylvester, Kristen, Jenna and Luke Sessions; 4 brothers, Bernard and Loretta Bertrang of Eau Claire, William “Billy” Bertrang and Craig Bertrang both of Fairchild, Bobby and Linda Bertrang of San Diego, CA; 4 sisters, Mabel Mead of Henderson, NV, Karen and Frank Schanke of Briggsville, June and Mike McBride of Racine, Kim and Jaime Pacheco of Kenosha.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mabel; and his beloved dachshunds, Nippy and Ginger. .
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of the Augusta Nursing Home and Grace Woodlands for taking such wonderful care of Jerry at a difficult time in his life. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with burial at a later date. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.
