Mildred L. Dekan, 83, formerly of Ludington Township, rural Fall Creek, passed away early Friday morning, Dec. 16, 2016 at the Cornell Area Care Center.
Mildred Lucille Dekan, daughter of Leo and Lola (Hudson) Hagedorn was born Oct. 16, 1933 in Ludington Township, Eau Claire County. Mildred was raised in Ludington Township with 12 siblings. She attended Woodland Valley Country School and was a baptized and confirmed member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Mildred was united in marriage to Harold Dekan on Dec. 18, 1954 in Altoona. The couple lived in Eau Claire before moving to their Ludington home in 1957. After Harold passed away on Feb. 17, 1989, Mildred remained in her home until she required assistance due to ill health. She had been a resident at the Mount Washington Home in Eau Claire, Home Place in Stanley, and Oakbrook Health and Rehabilitation in Thorp. Prior to entering the Cornel Care Center 2 years ago, she had lived in Stanley with her son Robbie and his family for 7 years. In addition to raising her family she enjoyed embroidery, drawing and painting pictures, watching and feeding the birds, and tending to her flower gardens.
Mildred will be dearly missed by her 8 sons, James (Donna), Harold Jr. (Chris), all of Cadott, Randy, Jeff (Donna), Robbie (Shelly) all of Stanley, Tom of Chippewa Falls, David (Theresa) of Boyd, Jon (Talia) of Fall Creek; 3 daughters, Susan Sockness of Cadott, Judy (Mike) Parrott of Chippewa Falls, Diane (Jeff) Schmidt of Boyd; sister Beverly Pettis of Augusta; 27 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mildred was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter Geraldine Draeger, son-in-law Terry Sockness, grandchildren, Sharon Schmidt and Ricky Draeger; andsiblings, Lawrence, Clarence, Fred, Ira, Louis and Ernest Hagedorn, Minnie Dehnke, Evelyn Hall, Irene Berlin, Clara Carpenter and Emma Berlin.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ludington, with Pastor James Norton officiating. Burial will be in the Ludington Township Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. The family is assisted by Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
