Ronald L. Goss, 86, of rural Augusta, died Monday, April 25, 2016, at his home in loving care of his family and Mayo Home Hospice.
Ronald Lemoine Goss was born March 27, 1930 in Garfield Township, Jackson County, to Glenn and Olive (Woodford) Goss. He started country school in Requa, before the family moved to the Foster area where he finished his education at Plainville Country School. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Augusta, and it was there that he was united in marriage to Monica Haselwander on May 28, 1955. Since their marriage the couple had farmed and raised their two children in the Augusta area and since 1968 had lived on their farm on Stinson Road in the Town of Bridge Creek.
Ron spent the greater part of his life milking cows and raising crops. He loved the farm life and only recently went from milking cows to raising beef cattle. With the help of his family he was still able to enjoy the farm from the seat of his “Gator”; inspecting the cattle, crops, soil and beating the grandkids at collecting annual sheddings. He also enjoyed hunting all sort of wild game, raising gardens, especially sweet corn, cooking out, and took pride in being able to take apart an old tractor engine and put it back together.
Ron’s family was blessed to have had a husband, dad and grandpa with a terrific sense of humor.
He will be dearly missed by Monica “Monnie”, his wife of near 61 years; daughter, Anita and Jim Beesley of Augusta; son, Steven and Kay Goss of Augusta; 4 grandchildren, Chris and Corey Price of Foster, Ashley and Lance Wolfe , Nathan and Courtney Goss, and Alicia Goss (Derek Boldt) all of Augusta; 9 great grandchildren; 5 sisters, Geraldine Grohn, Alma Zich, and Norma and Harley Voetman all of Fall Creek, Ione Schultz of Oshkosh, Marie Phillips of Florida; 2 brothers, Clarence and Elaine Goss of Hale Township, rural Pleasantville, Darrell and Diane Goss of Fall Creek; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Raymond Goss and Priscilla Hanson.
A visitation will be held Wednesday evening , April 27, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and on Thursday from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Augusta. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church.
