June Ellen Johnson of Fairchild passed away Monday afternoon, Oct. 3, 2016 at the Trempealeau County Health Care Center in Whitehall, at the age of 83.
June was born on June 16, 1933 in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, daughter of Gustav and Ellen Larson and grew up in Ford River with her siblings. After her parents deaths, she lived with her sister Margie and graduated from the Bark River-Harris High School in Harris, MI. Following graduation she moved to Chicago and was employed at the Prudential Insurance Company for six-plus years. While in Chicago she connected with classmate Arlen Johnson, who also found employment there. The couple later married on January 28, 1955 in Chicago. She and Arlen then moved to Fairchild where they bought and operated a dairy farm, Julen Acres, for 46 years. June always had a large and beautiful garden and grew the best strawberries that she loved to share. She also enjoyed making quilts and braided rugs. In 1975, June became interested in Braille work through the LWML at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta, where she was a member. She completed her training course via mail and received her certification in August of 1976. She then volunteered her services translating for the blind for 3 years. June also worked as a CNA for 11 years at the nursing facilities in Osseo, Strum and Fairchild.
June is survived by her husband, Arlen: 2 sons, Miles (Dawn) of Fairchild, Kermit (Audrey) of Taylor; daughter, Daphne (Joseph) Phelps of Ladysmith; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; brother Kermit of Gladstone, MI; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter Tiffany; brothers, Norman, Winston, Keith and Larry; and sisters, Margie Peterson and Doris Berquist and Clara.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with Pastor Jonathan Wessel officiating. Burial will be in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.
