Lyle L. Olson, 84, formerly of the Holcombe - Cornell area passed away Tuesday evening, May 17, 2016 at the Strum Area Nursing Home.
Lyle Laverne Olson was born in the Northfield area of Jackson County on May 13, 1932, the son of Orville and Mabel (Mork) Olson. He was baptized on July 3, 1932 and confirmed on Nov. 17, 1947 both at the South Beef RiverLutheran Church by Rev. Christopherson. Lyle attended Holen Country School and graduated from Whitehall High School in 1950. For several years following his graduation he worked as a rodeo clown in South Dakota. He was united in marriage to Rita Bolin in 1962, and to this union their daughter Jody was born. He later married Jeanne Ann Kruger in 1979. Lyle lived most of his life in the Holcombe-Cornell area before moving to Osseo in 2010 to be near Jody and her family. For the past 2 years he had been a resident of the nursing home. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cornell. Lyle was a member of the Local Carpenter’s Union 1074 and started his career working in commercial construction for Foley Brothers Construction out of St. Paul. He eventually took a job with N.S. P. where he worked constructing hydroelectric dams throughout Wisconsin and Iowa. He retired in 1993. After his retirement Lyle enjoyed spending time in his large vegetable gardens and berry patches, but especially loved the time spent with his 3 grandsons. He had always enjoyed fishing, but sharing that activity with his grandsons took on a whole new meaning for him.
Lyle will be dearly missed by his daughter, Jody and Charlie Shong of Foster and their children, Joseph Charles, Joshua Lyle and James Wallace Shong; 2 very special cousins, Dolores (Gaylord) Stuve and Janet Goudin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Jeanne in 1992; and siblings, Owen and Lloyd Olson
