Marion E. Polinske, 94, life time resident of the city of Augusta, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2016 at the Augusta Area Nursing Home with her family by her side.
Marion was born January 3, 1922 in Augusta. She was one of eight children born to Herman and Ella (Turner) Hammer. She attended school in Augusta, graduating from Augusta High School in 1940. Marion was united in marriage to Jess Raber on March 3, 1941. Jess passed away July13, 1946, when their son Donny was just a young child. Marion later married Gilman Polinske on Feb. 14, 1948 in Fall Creek, and to this union their 2 sons were born. Marion was employed for many years at Bush Brothers and Company in Augusta, retiring in the 1980’s. Marion had always enjoyed spending time with her family; whether it was the daily phone calls and many shopping trips with her sisters, or traveling to a casino for the day or just going to a thrift sale. She also loved to bake and took pleasure in giving thebaked goods to others. Through the years she enjoyed working on crafts, which she was still able to do at the nursing home. She had a collection of dolls that she made clothing for and also made many quilts and afghans over the years. After Gil passed away on March 21, 1999 she remained in her home until moving to the Augusta Area Nursing Home in April of 2010. Marion enjoyed her stay at the home, interacting with the residents and staff. The family wishes to thank the staff for taking such excellent care of her and for the many nursing home visits her niece Marcella made.
Marion will be dearly missed by her 2 sons, Michael Polinske of Eau Claire, David Polinske of Fort Worth, TX; granddaughter, Jennifer and Gill Sanford of Eau Claire; great grandchildren, Natalie and Melanie Andersen, Sarah, Jordan and Laura Sanford; many nieces, nephews and their families, as well as other relatives.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Marion was also preceded in death by her sonand daughter-in-law, Donald and Roberta Raber; and siblings, Harry, Raymond and Clifford Hammer, Ruth Galston, Edith Summers, Cora Zook and Ether Thone.
A visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with funeral services at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.
