Herbert Henning, “Herb”, 93, of Augusta, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Friday morning, Nov. 10, 2017, at Clearwater Care Center in Eau Claire and in the care of St Croix Hospice.
Herbert Harold Louis Henning, son of Julius and Rose (Fortin) Henning was born May 31, 1924 in Augusta. He lived all of his life in Augusta where he attended school and as a young man worked asa farm hand for the Smith brothers. On May 31, 1949 he was united in marriage to Gladys King at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Augusta. The couple lived for a short time in Augusta before moving to their farm in Bridge Creek Township. They returned to the city of Augusta in 1985. In addition to farming Herb hauled can milk for the Ludington Creamery and then for the Augusta DairyMaid Co-op Creamery. For several years he also drove bus for the Augusta School District. Over the years Herb had enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, gardening and always looked forward to watching a good western or the Lawrence Welk show on television. After his wife Gladys passed away on Sept. 18, 2011, he discovered that he also enjoyed baking, especially pies and cookies.
Herb will be dearly missed by his 3 daughters, Judy Mayer of Augusta, Jane and Gene Kjesbo of Chippewa Falls, Joan and Jerry Dekan of Arcadia; 2 granddaughters, Jessica (Rocky) Marco of Sparta, Janelle Dekan and her fiancé Jorel Clark of Trempealeau; great grandson Rocky Marco; sisters-in-law, Arlene Harrigan of Oakdale, MN, Sylvia Bluem and Ruby Silver both of Eau Claire; brothers-in-law, Roger King of Fairchild and Phil Lato of Sequim, WA; step grandchildren, Kevin (Sandy) Mayer of Neillsville, Brenda Clouse (Jon Janzen) of Osseo, Troy Mayer of Fairchild, Stacy (Lois) Mayer of Fairchild and their families: and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was also preceded in death by his parents; brother Rudy; and son-in-law Larry Mayer.
A visitation will be held Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017 from noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with funeral services at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.
The family would like to thank the staff at Clearwater Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care given to Herb and also for the love and support shown to his family.
