The couple farmed in the Town of Bridge Creek, rural Augusta, until retiring and moving into the city of Augusta in 1981. For a time after moving into the city, Leora worked cleaning at the Augusta Farmers Union. For many years she worked as the assistant to the Director of the Augusta Senior Center, retiring from this position in 2010. Leora had been a member of Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed her participation with its ladies society. She loved riding her bike, and only gave it up as well as gardening in 2008, due to a heart condition. Over the years she enjoyed embroidering on towels, reading the newspaper, and while at the nursing home playing bingo and doing word search.
