Jerome Steinke
Jerome Thomas Steinke, “Jerry”, 77, of Eau Claire, passed away early Saturday morning, May 6, 2017, at Dove Healthcare-West, Eau Claire.

Jerry was born March 18, 1940, the oldest of 7 sons born to Erick and Dorothy (Smith) Steinke. He was born and raised in Eau Claire, where he was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church and graduated from Memorial High School. Jerry was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and served from July of 1963 to July of 1965, first at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri, and then at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Eau Claire where he was employed by Uniroyal Tire Company. On June 13, 1964, Jerry was united in marriage to Grace Kuehn at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta. The couple lived in Eau Claire until 1992, when due to Uniroyal’s closing in Eau Claire, Jerry transferred to the factory in Opelika, Alabama. After working 37 years with the tire company he retired, and he and Grace moved back to Eau Claire on July 2, 2014. Jerry had been a member of the United Rubber Worker’s Union. While in Opelika, he was a member of the local American Legion Post, and after moving back to Eau Claire he joined both the Eagles and Elks Club. Jerry had always enjoyed hunting and fishing in Wisconsin, and was an avid Packer and Brewer fan. Throughout his life he loved cars and spent many hours reading the various auto magazines he received monthly, as well as watching car shows. He also enjoyed watching the history channel.

Jerry will be deeply missed by Grace, his wife of nearly 53 years. He is further survived by his 6 brothers, Dennis and Judy Steinke of Chippewa Falls, Don and Jean Steinke of Altoona, Richard Steinke of Eau Claire, Paul and Diane Steinke of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Charlie and Mary Steinke of Eau Claire, Jimmy and Bev Steinke of Chippewa Falls; sisters-in-laws, Elaine and Harold Krause of Eau Claire, Jane Baldwin of West Bend, Mary and Dick Riley of Rock Dam; and several nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta, with Pastor Jonathan Wessel officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services Thursday at the church.
