Dolores M. Gibson, 90, of rural Chippewa Falls, passed away with her family at her side on Thursday morning, February 15, 2018 at Lake Hallie Memory Care and under the care of Mayo Home Hospice.
Dolores Mae, daughter of Leonard and Loretta (Neisius) Bourget was born May 27, 1927 . She was raised in the Cadott area where she attended country school and graduated from Cadott High School. Wanting to be teacher, she attended Eau Claire Normal Teacher College and taught country school in the Town of Washington. Dolores was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Gibson on Dec. 26, 1946, and together they enjoyed 66 years of marriage in Seymour Township. In 1961 the couple moved to their farm in Eau Claire County and lived there until building their present home in 2004. In addition to farming they built the Brown Hut Tavern in 1968 and operated it for 19 years. Dolores was an active member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church and enjoyed her involvement with its’ Altar Society. She was a busy homemaker and mother but in her later years she took an interest in painting landscapes, barns and birds on canvas. After raising her 7 children she reaped the benefits of spending time with her grand and great grandchildren. After Dick passed away on June 20, 2013 she continued to live in her home. Due to a fall she moved to the Chippewa Assisted Living and since October of 2015 had been a resident of Lake Hallie Memory Care.
Dolores is survived by her 7 children; Diane (Louie) Hoel of Fall Creek, Rick (Linda) Gibson of New Auburn, Mark Gibson of Fall Creek, Shelly Bergsholm of Burnsville, MN, Laurie Gibson of Cadott, Patricia Schunk of Eau Claire, Nancy (Jessie) Taitano ofChippewa Falls; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack (Jo) Bourget and Edward (Bonnie) Bourget all of Eau Claire; sisters- in-laws, Bonnie Gibson, HelenGibson, Jo Gibson all of Eau Claire, and Donna Bourget of Cadott.
Dolores was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter Janice; grandson Mathew Michaud; and siblings, Elaine Peterson and Truman Bourget.
Memorial services will be held Monday, Feb. 19, 2018 at noon at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Seymour Township, rural Chippewa Falls. A visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at the church on Monday. Burial will be in the spring in St. Bridget’s Catholic Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mayo Hospice for the wonderful care given to Dolores and the family. Memorial services will be held at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Seymour Township.
