Charles G. Kaeding, 89, of rural Augusta, passed away peacefully at the Augusta Health and Rehabilitation on Monday morning, June 25, 2018.
Charles Gerhardt Kaeding was born Jan. 9, 1929, at home in the Town of Washington to Gerhardt and Mable (Patzwald) Kaeding. He was baptized and confirmed at St. James Trinity Lutheran Church in Fall Creek and graduated from Hillview School. When Charles was 15 his grandfather Patzwald died, and at that time he took over the farming duties on his grandmother’s farm. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Honadel on Nov. 8, 1953 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in rural Augusta. Charles continued farming for his grandmother until 1958, when he moved his family to a farm in the Town of Lincoln. He farmed there until 1980, when he moved to rural Augusta and his son Mark took over the farming. He continued to go back to the farm and help wherever needed. He was a life long member of St. James Trinity Lutheran Church. Charles loved his family and especially spending time with his 2 great granddaughters.
Charles is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 64 years; daughter Marlene (Warren) Schultz of De Pere; 2 sons, Mark (Cathy) of Augusta, Ron (Nancy) of Elk Mound; 5 grandchildren, Jamie (Scott) Gerike, Travis Kaeding (Nicole Crooker), Alison (Cody) Weltzin, Kari (Alex) King, Lori Kaeding (Chase Stoltz); 2 great granddaughters, Reese and Cora Gerike; 2 sisters, Darlene Zemple of Onalaska, Beverly (Dennis) Aasen of Eau Claire; 2 sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Vince) Goble of Eau Claire, Jean Honadel of Augusta.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brother Arvid; brothers-in-law, Harvey Zemple, Norman and Eilert Honadel; and sister-in-law, Lois Honadel.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Trinity Lutheran Church in Fall Creek, with Pastor Rick Biedermann officiating.
Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery in Fall Creek. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Mayo Hospital and Mayo Home Hospice, the staff at Augusta Health and Rehabilitation for their tender care, and for all the visits and prayers from Pastor Biermann.
