Wilma F. Purdun, 91, of Ludington Township, rural Fall Creek, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
Wilma Frances Purdun was born October 4, 1926 in Centralia, Missouri. She was raised in rural Centralia, where she attended country school and graduated from Centralia High School in 1943. She was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church in Centralia and enjoyed the activities she was involved in at the church during her youth. Wilma was united in marriage to Robert Purdun in July of 1956. The couple lived the first year of their marriage in Columbia, Missouri, before moving to Medford, WI. In 1960 they moved to the Lester Lowman Farm in Ludington Township, rural Augusta. In 1976 she moved to LaCrosse, 5 years later she moved to Houston, MN, before moving back to LaCrosse in 1985. Since 1999 she had lived in her present home in Ludington Township. Wilma had worked as a telephone operator for over 25 years, and when she retired she had worked 13 of those years for Centurytel in LaCrosse.
Wilma will be remembered as someone who “always marched to the beat of her own drum.” She enjoyed writing and had written several books of which two; Death Calls at Midnight, and Vacation Can Be Deadly, were published. She enjoyed putting familiar situations and surroundings in her writings. She also enjoyed gardening, her participation with Ludington Homemakers Club, riding horses, and crocheting.
Wilma will be dearly missed by her 3 sons, Wally and Barbara Purdun of Randolph, Mike and Anna Purdun of Pasadena, CA, Ralph and Sarah Purdun of rural Fall Creek; 12 grandchildren, David (Carry) Purdun, Rob (Jess) Purdun, Laurie (Ryan) Regan, Mindy (Chris) Butler, Michelle, Kevin, Mikey, and Brian Purdun, Nicholas Purdun, Justin (Chelsea) Purdun, Jamie (Tyler) Degenhardt, Matt (Kylee) Purdun; and 14 great grandchildren.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Robert on Oct. 25, 1985.
A visitation will be held Friday July 13, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Lakeside # 2 Cemetery in Phillips, WI, with Pastor Brad Soukup officiating.
