Leland E. Sutton, 91, of Augusta, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
For nearly 9 years, Lee had been a resident of the Augusta Area Nursing Home.Leland Erwin Sutton, lifelong resident of Augusta was born August 4, 1926 in the family home on North Stone Street, the son of Erwin and Lucille (Barka) Sutton. He was raised with his brother andsister in the city before moving to the family farm just north of Augusta. Lee was baptized and confirmed at the E.U.B. Church in Augusta, and continued his membership with the Augusta United Methodist Church. He graduated from Augusta High School in 1944, and shortly after graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Hawaiian Islands during the end of W.W. 2. After his honorable discharge he returned to Augusta, where he farmed in Bridge Creek and Lincoln Townships. After he retired from farming he worked an additional 20 years testing milk for AMPI and also with Wisconsin Dairies of Baraboo, currently Foremost Farms.On September 9, 1978, Lee was united in marriage to Helen Krigsvold Peterson at Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta. Lee and Helen enjoyed their life together, traveling in the surrounding area or just the two of them getting in the car for the day. Lee and Helen met while dancing and continued to dance as often as possible. He was an active member of his church and for many years sang with the Red Ties. He was also a lifetime member of the Augusta VFW. Lee loved visiting with family and friends as much as he could and looked forward to meeting daily with his coffee buddies and shaking a few games of dice. Lee touched so many lives with his kindness and sense of humor that he will be dearly missed, but those who will miss him were all very blessed to have known him.
Lee is survived by his brother, Herbert Sutton of Amarillo, TX; sister, Jeanette Williams of Minneapolis; 3 nieces and 2 nephews; Janna (John) Politte of Minneapolis, Julie Sutton of Amarillo, TX, Carol (Ernest) Zernial of San Antonio, TX; Jay Williams and Jon Williams both of Minneapolis and their families; his 4 children when he married Helen, Robert Peterson of Minneapolis, Leif Peterson of Eau Claire, Anita (Bruce) Randall of Lakewood, CO, Sonja Peterson of Eau Claire; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Lucille; wife Helen on Nov. 22, 2011; sister-in-law, Gwen Sutton; and brother-in-law, Jerry Williams.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018, from noon to 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Augusta, with funeral services at 2 :00 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Augusta. Arrangements by Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
