Anna Marie Niewierowicz, 63 of rural Augusta, passed away suddenly at her home on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 17, 2019.
Anna Marie was born Sept. 1, 1955 in Falun, Sweden, the daughter of Jan and Aleksandra (Lewshak) Niewierowicz. She was raised in Sweden until moving to Los Angeles, California where she attended grade school and graduated from high school in 1973. She furthered her education by attending the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, and Caltech in Pasadena, California. Following her studies in California she attended medical college in Minska, Belarus. With her medical degree she specialized as an abdominal surgeon in the Soviet Union for several years. After the death of her mother in 1990, Anna moved to rural Augusta to care for her father. Receiving a proper education was so important to Anna and through the Augusta and Eau Claire School Systems she took pride in assisting in the modeling of young minds to achieve their full potential. To her students she was affectionately known as Dr. Anna. For the past several years Anna travel extensively throughout the United States with her position as the regional compliance officer for the Center of Disease Control for the northern United States, and she also worked in conjunction with the U.S. Census Bureau. Anna Marie will be dearly missed by her loving son, Alexander Kostromin of Augusta.
She was preceded in death her mother Aleksandra on Oct. 22, 1990, and her father Jan on Feb. 23, 2000.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with Rev. Hermann Klarr officiating. Burial will be held in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta. Friends may call 1 hour prior to services Monday at the funeral home.
