Ryan L. Bertrand, 35, of rural Augusta, passed away at his home from diabetic complications on April 30, 2020.
Ryan Lee Bertrand was born in Eau Claire on May 19, 1984, the son of Phillip Bertrand and Lori (Erickson) McCune. He attended grade school in Augusta and Osseo, and graduated from
Osseo-Fairchild High School with the class of 2002. Following his graduation he attended Wyo Tech in Laramie, Wyoming where he was trained as a technician in the automotive and diesel industry and also in auto body and custom paint. With this training he returned back to Wisconsin where he was self employed. He also worked as a traveling trouble shooter with Pro Poly Industries of Augusta and had the opportunity to travel through out the United States working on projects and also to the Middle East to repair military equipment. More recently he had been employed working on hydraulic equipment with Farnsworth Services. If you knew Ryan, you were aware that what might seem like work to others, was fun and challenging to him. Having the knowledge and being able to help others, especially with mechanical problems was very satisfying to Ryan. Having lived in his apartment on the Stensen property he looked forward to being able to help Jeff and Mike with the farm chores. He was a true “Ford Guy” that not only enjoyed working on cars and driving his Mustang, but was also a model car enthusiast. He loved working puzzles, was an avid history and Stephen King reader, and was currently trying to teach himself how to play the guitar. Ryan may have seemed quiet and reserved on the outside, but the more you got to know him the more his personality shown through. He had a lot of fun with family and friends and always looked forward to camping trips, fishing and riding motorcycles.
Ryan will be dearly missed by his father, Phillip (Rebecca) Bertrand of Indian Mound, TN ; mother, Lori (Mike) McCune of Osseo; brother, James (Stacy) Bertrand of Eau Claire; 2 sisters, Christy Generali of Texas, Melinda Bertrand of Osseo; grandmother Marlene Erickson of Fall Creek; great grandmother, Mildred Legge of Eau Claire; Bertrand aunts and uncles, Gary (Pam) Bertrand, Darrel (Diana) Bertrand, Randy Bertrand (Kim), Melody Bertrand, Dallas Bertrand (Jeff), Erickson aunts and uncles, Cheri (Joe) Schaffer, Lee Erickson, Chrissy Erickson, Lynn Jaenke; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ryan was fortunate to have been loved by 2 families. What started many years ago as a friendship with the Stensen family, developed into a very special relationship and he will be deeply missed by all of them; Jeff and Karen Stensen of Augusta, and their children, Jenny Humphreys of Pigeon Falls, Mike and Dona Stensen of Augusta, Penny and Brad Schmidt of Fall Creek; and their children. Also part of this family was his special little godchild Mya Stensen.
Ryan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leroy Erickson, James and Isabelle Bertrand; uncle Doug Bertrand; nieces Annalee Renee Peterson; and good friend Michael Lone.
A private burial will be in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta, with Pastor Mike Beckman officiating.
A celebration of Ryan’s life will be held at a later date.
