Mark M. Smith, 58, of rural Fairchild, passed away at his home Thursday evening, March 12, 2020, knowing that he was not only in the care of Mayo Hospice but also attended to by his devoted wife and in the presence of his large and loving family.
Mark Monroe Smith was born August 15, 1961, in Eau Claire to Glenn and Fern (Barka) Smith. Mark was raised in Osseo where he attended school, graduating from Osseo-Fairchild High School in 1979. Throughout his life Mark worked at a 711 when living in Colorado, with an asbestos removal crew when in New Hampshire, and when he moved back to Wisconsin he was employed at Whitehall Specialties. Prior to 2007 when ill health forced his retirement, he had enjoyed his 5 year employment at Nortech Industries in Augusta. While at Nortech he met Rebecca Medina and the couple later married on May 2, 2009, in Osseo.
When Mark was a senior in high school he was involved in a serious car accident fracturing his back, and since then he wasn’t able to take part in strenuous activities. Before that he had enjoyed wrestling in school and later in life still enjoyed following a variety of sports and especially his Green Bay Packer, Brewers and Badger teams.
No matter where he was he always had his fishing pole and along with that he looked forward to his camping trips and sitting by the campfire. Many nights he and Rebecca sat in their swing together in their backyard enjoying each other’s company and the relaxing fire.
Mark will be dearly missed by his loving wife Rebecca; 3 step sons, Levi and Amber Robb, Nick and Audrey Charlo all of Osseo, Greg and Heather Jackson of Georgia; 2 step daughters, Crystal and Bill Rovik of Montana, Karen and Tim Nardone of Michigan; several grandchildren of which Rico, Avery and Mathew were his buddies; 5 brothers, Terry Smith of Whitehall, Gregory and Cindy Smith of Racine, Dennis and Danette Smith of Osseo, Jeff and Jeanie Smith of Fairchild, Thomas Smith of Osseo; 4 sisters, Brenda and Tom Johnson of Osseo, Joan and Douglas Scheffer of Humbird, Valerie and Charles Anderson of Strum, Patricia Kittelson of Osseo; sisters-in-law, Shirley Smith of Northwood, NH, Mary Kay Smith of Whitehall; aunts, Norma Sieg of Portage, Carol Passitori of Port St. Lucy, FL; several nieces and nephews.
