Phyllis Woodward
Phyllis S. Woodward, 99, formerly of Augusta, passed away peacefully at Grand View Care Center in Blair, the place she enjoyed and called home since February of2020.

Phyllis, daughter of Milly (Dettinger) and William Parker was born on June 2, 1922, in LaCrosse, WI, and it was there she graduated from Logan High School. Inthe summer of 1941, Phyllis and her mother moved to the Island of Oahu in Hawaii, where her step father William Ashdown was stationed. She witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941. She was in Hawaii to be married in January of 1942, but after the bombing and before her fiancé was shipped out to Korea, Phyllis and Earl Woodward were united in marriage on Dec. 19, 1941. After Earl returned from the war the couple eventually lived at Fort Bragg, NC, before moving to Kentucky, and then to Pensacola and Seminole, Florida. Upon the death of her husband, Phyllis and her mother Milly Ashdown moved from Florida back to their beloved Wisconsin and settled in Augusta in 1992.

Having witness the horror and devastation at Pearl Harbor might have been what pushed Phyllis to live her 99 years to the fullest. In addition to raising her 2 sons, she took her brother and mother each into her home, and cared from them until they passed away. She loved her life in Augusta and took part in the community wherever she could. She was especially active with the Augusta Senior Center and treasured her involvement with the First Baptist Church. She looked forward to the many bible studies that where held in her home, and through the church delivered meals on wheels. She loved riding through the beautiful country side and taking in the beauty her Lord and Savior had created.

Phyllis was also a gifted artist. She enjoyed painting and over the years had done many wood carvings. She also found great solitude in writing. At the age of 80 she wrote her life history, she wrote several unpublished books, and due to her strong convictions and opinion you could often find her articles published in the voice of the people. In addition to her strong faith and love of family, Phyllis was also extremely patriotic. She knew first hand and never forgot what our veterans went through, and the ultimate sacrifice they made to keep our country free.

Phyllis was welcomed into heaven by her parents; husband Earl; brother Willard Parker; son, Michael Woodward; grandson Travis Woodward; and daughter-in-law, Linda Woodward. She will be dearly missed by her son Patrick Woodward of Florida; grandson Lance Woodward of Holmen; Ann Woodward of Holmen, who Phyllis loved as a granddaughter; daughter-in-law, Lynda Woodward of Black River Falls; niece Carol Lee of Arkansas; and special friends who with their help allowed Phyllis to remain in her home as along as she did, Dodie Neuenfeldt of Augusta and Katie Bahnub of Black River Falls.

She will also be dearly missed by her friends in Augusta, especially her First Baptist Church family.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at the First Baptist Church in Augusta, with Pastor Craig Lindgren officiating. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.
