Norma “Missy” Welker (Thurmond)

Norma Kathryn Welker, lovingly referred to as Missy by family and friends, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Fairchild, WI, on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at the age of 49.

Missy was born August 17, 1972, in Benton, Illinois, to William and Dinieta (Baumbach) Thurmond. In 1986 she moved with her family to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, where she graduated from Memorial High School. With her love of cooking she went on to work in the dietary departments at the Dove Healthcare Center and the Clairemont Nursing Home, both in Eau Claire.
Missy was united in marriage to Brian Welker on Dec. 31, 1999, and to this union their daughter Alyssa was born and also brought into the marriage was Missy’s son Andrew.

Missy enjoyed being a grandma and cherished every moment spent with her grandson Hunter. Her family and friends meant the world to her and she was the one you could always count on for preparing food for them when ever the occasion arose. She loved spending time outdoors, playing cards, especially Royal Rummy with her daughter, and following the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers.

Missy will be deeply missed by her daughter, Alyssa Welker (Stephen Davis) of Winfield, AL; mother Dinieta Wampole of Fairchild; grandson Hunter Hardwick of Thorp; sister, Tina (John) Severson of Osseo; 4 brothers, John Holst of Fairchild, Daryl (Diane) Holst of Beaver Dam, Frankie Thurmond of Mondovi, Carl Thurmond of Merrillan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Missy was preceded in death by her father William Thurmond in 2009; son Andrew Hardwick in 2020; her paternal grandparents, Frank and Norma Thurmond; paternal Baumbach grandparents; step father Robert Wampole in 2015; and great aunt and uncle, Kathryn”Kassie” and Carl McFadden.
