Ruth Mary Anderson, age 85, passed away peacefully at the Augusta Nursing Home on September 2, 2024. She was born January 3, 1939, in Eau Claire, WI, the youngest child and only daughter of Oscar and Irene (Higbee) Mattison. She grew up on the East side hill in Eau Claire and enjoyed sledding on the seven bumps and ice skating at the Boyd Park rink.
She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church, Eau Claire, WI and loved singing in the church choirs in her elementary and high school years.
She was a member of the last graduating class from the old Eau Claire Senior High in 1957. She graduated from the Luther Hospital School of Nursing in 1960.
Ruth married Richard (Duke) Anderson on July 22, 1961at Grace Lutheran Church, Eau Claire, WI. They moved to Augusta, WI in 1967 when Richard began teaching and coaching there.
She was employed at Luther Hospital, Eau Claire, WI until 1967 and at the Augusta Nursing Home for 29 years.
She was a faithful member of Osseo Lutheran Church and cherished her Lutheran heritage. She loved making lefse, rosettes, krumkake and sandbakkels. She thoroughly enjoyed their self-guided tours to England, Netherlands, and France.
When Ruth was able, she volunteered in Augusta with Meals on Wheels, Augusta Senior and Community Center for the Quilt Addicts Club, quilt shows and Augusta AARP.
She cherished her family and friends and loved music, art, literature, and learning. She loved book club, stargazing, spectator sports and watching her granddaughters in all their activities.
She is forever grateful to her beloved dad and brothers for instilling in her the love of baseball and her mother for her love of art, literature, and lifelong learning. She died happy knowing the Cubs had finally won the World Series.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Milford (Beth) Mattison Roger (Jeanette) Mattison, and Owen (Joyce) Mattison.
She is survived by her husband, Richard, whose jobs were to make her laugh or sing every day, shop for groceries, plan the menu, and daily cook delicious food, their son John and the best daughter-in-law in the world, Beth. She is also survived by three wonderful granddaughters Megan (Adam) Moyer of Franklin, TN and their children Payton, Jett, Lane, and Maye; Chelsea (Tony) Ball of Mankato, MN and their children Knox and Nash; Sydney (Casey) Webber of Wayzata, MN, and their son Alfie. She is also survived by several highly valued nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, September 6th from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. with memorial service following at Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church, 50351 Harmony St, Osseo, WI.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Public Broadcasting Service, Augusta Library, National Public Radio, or Wisconsin Public Radio.
