John Card
John Charles Card, 86, of Fairchild, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday morning, July 26, 2024. He was in the care of his loving family and Interim Hospice.

John was born May 11, 1938, at home in Eau Claire to Mike and Elsie (Lindow) Card. He was the third born after his brother Lester (Bud) and sister Evelyn, to be followed by 3 younger brothers and five younger sisters.

The Card family lived in Eau Claire until moving to Fairchild when John was 17 years old and it was in rural Fairchild that he had lived the remainder of his life. His first jobs were in Fairchild, logging with Norman Benson and then working at Pat Krueger’s Chevy Garage. He then took employment with Gould Foundry in Eau Claire before working closer to home at the Spur Station in Augusta. His last employer was Tom Randall where he had started in the service station, then the feed mill and before retiring his main job which he enjoyed was hauling furniture for the Woodshed. In addition to his various jobs he was also farming just west of Fairchild with his wife Veronica “Ronnie” Stafsholt, who he was united in marriage to on November 17, 1970, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

John was his happiest when he was surrounded by his children and grandkids, teaching them his hobbies of farming, woodcarving, hunting, fishing and raising flowers. If he needed something built he took it upon himself to do it, and with his daughter Melissa built a home for her and her family on the adjoining property. He had a huge appreciation for nature and the trees, flowers and farm land that surrounded him. He didn’t seek far from home as his life revolved around his large extended family and spending time with them.

John will be deeply missed by Ronnie, his loving wife of 53 years; daughter, Melissa (Robert) Kruschke of Fairchild; son-in-law, Andrew Cveykus of Edgar; 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; brother Henry Card of Osseo; 2 sisters, Alice (Herb) Hess of Siren, Kathy (Kevin) George of Eau Claire; 2 sisters-in-law, Dawn Card of Eau Claire, Janell Card of Fairchild; brother-in-law, Norman Jansen of Milwaukee: and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

John was preceded in death by his father Mike in 1979; mother Elsie in 1994; son Todd Stafsholt in 2001; daughter Tamara Cveykus in 2012; sisters, Edna (Darwin) Anderson, Evelyn (Lawrence) Farmer, Donna (Tom) Olson and Beverly Janssen; brothers, Roger Card, Lester “Bud” (Betty) Card, David Card; sisters-in-law, Elaine and Norma Card.

A visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with funeral services at noon at the funeral home on Saturday. Burial will be in the Fairchild Cemetery.
