Helen Eid
Helen Marie (Nelson) Eid, age 89, of Osseo, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024.

Helen was born Dec. 31, 1934, at the Peter Maug farm in the town of Hale to Alvin and Esther (Maug) Nelson, the third of six children. She attended North Branch School and Pleasantville School, which was a 2 room schoolhouse. She graduated with her class from Whitehall Memorial High School in 1953. She loved being a featured singer in Whitehall High School musicals, singing at weddings and being part of choirs throughout her lifetime. She was also chosen as Trempealeau County’s Outstanding Person as a high school freshman for her work in sewing, food preservation and handiwork. She also operated the telephone switchboard in Pleasantville.

On April 16, 1955, she married Gordon Eid at Elk Creek Lutheran Church. They moved to Germany as an Air Force assignment for Gordie, where they enjoyed much downhill skiing. The next base was Corpus Christi, Texas, where adaptation to scorpions was a necessity. After Air Force life, they moved to Eau Claire, Kenosha, Pigeon Falls, Pleasantville and finally Osseo, raising six children along the way.

For many years Helen worked at the Norske Nook in Osseo waitressing and making pies. Later she worked for Steve Gunderson’s office. Helen loved sports and enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre at Lambeau Field many times. It was a Sunday tradition to be in front of the TV and eating pizza. She enjoyed every performance of her children and grandchildren in their different sports, sitting in many gymnasiums, and on lawn chairs and bleachers along side many fields. She never got tired of cheering them on and was proud of each of them. She was a grandma with a loving heart and full cookie jar!

Helen loved working outdoors in her yard and flower beds. She had a plaque by her garage door that read, “The kiss of the sun for pardon, the song of the birds for mirth, one is nearer God’s heart in a garden then anywhere else on Earth.” She also loved making quilts, in fact made over 25 guilts for her immediate family and others through her church affiliation.Helen will be remembered as a smiling, humble, gentle and independent woman, strong in faith.

Helen is survived by her six children, Kevin (Mary Jo), Christopher, Vicki (Scott) Hausmann, Peggy (Tim) Reget, Susan, and Colleen (Donald) Emert; eight grandchildren, Jasen and Tyler Eid, Kirah (David) Heiden, Christie (Jordan) Fiari, Sarah (Jeff) Quigley, Isaac (Jacey) Emert, Ethan (Caitlyn) Hausmann and Noah Hausmann. She is further survived by three great granddaughters, Chloe, Chelsea and Olivia Heiden; two great grandsons, Benjamin Quigley and Ezrah Emert; brother, Jim (Kay) Nelson; sisters-in-law, Sandra Nelson, Harriet Hong; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; parents, Alvin and Esther Nelson; brothers, Jerald and John Nelson; sisters, Francis Hagen and Ann Garthus; sisters-in-law, Janice Klebig, Murial Eid, Barbara Nelson and Florence Eid; brothers-in-law, Lyman Hagen, Conrad Garthus, Gordon Hong, Vernon Eid, Byron Klebig and George Eid; two nephews, Robert and Thomas; and niece Mary.

A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osseo. Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday at the church with Pastor Terry Lorenz officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with a meal to follow.
