Sarah Gaede
Sarah Gaede, 84, of Augusta, passed away at her home early Tuesday morning, January 16, 2024.

Sarah Alma Gaede was born October 10, 1939, one of 14 children born to Loyal and Concil (Rhoades) Flick. Up until the last 2 years Sarah had lived all of her life in Fairchild Township, except for a few years as a teenager when she worked for the Knuth family in rural Augusta. While taking care of the Knuth children she met the “milk man”, Donald E. Gaede who she later married on Oct. 11, 1958, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Augusta.

The couple farmed east of Augusta in Fairchild Township until the late 1980’s, when they sold the farm and then built their home just up the road. After Donald entered the Augusta Health and Rehabilitation, Sarah moved to her apartment in Fall Creek in 2022. After living there for a year she was able to move to the apartments in Augusta in July of 2023 to be closer to her daughter Pam.

In addition to farming along side Don and the family, she and Don also read meters for Eau Claire Electric for 33 years. For many years during the cranberry harvest she worked for her neighbor and friend Julian King at the King Cranberry Marsh.

Sitting idle was not part of Sarah’s life. She was always busy doing something, whether it was out in her garden and canning her produce or getting ready to sell the wood they cut, the hay they bailed or squash they raised, she was on the go. When she was indoors who could usually find her in the kitchen, as she loved to cook and bake. Over the years she had baked thousands of cookies, cakes, breads and other sweets that she shared with others. She generously gave out goodie baskets and homegrown vegetables to many friends and relatives.
When resting she did enjoy watching television and rarely missed an episode of Days of Our Lives.

Sarah was baptized and confirmed as child into the Lutheran faith and throughout her life her faith was extremely important to her. The family had been members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairchild before transferring their membership to Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta, where she helped with the ladies aid. She had also worked many years on the Fairchild Township Election Board.

Sarah will be deeply missed by her husband Donald of Augusta; daughters, Barbara Thomley of Eau Claire and Pamela Zinn of Augusta; son, Tim (Christie) Gaede of Osseo; 9 grandchildren, Jeff (Lori) Thomley, Kyle (Jordan) Benning, Jessica Zielsdorf (Ed Fernholz), Kim Thomley, Stephanie Plasch, Jerome Gaede (Mattie Kempf), Tyler Gaede (Thea Bohl), Rebecca (Juan Castillo) Zinn, Samantha Zinn (Cory Kampmeier); 7 great grandchildren, Oliver and Madison Thomley, Alexandra, Kyrah and Dylan Thurman, Tayrn Benning, Milo Castillo; 1 great great grandson, Benson Thurman-Moyer; 4 brothers, Dennis (Luanne)Flick of Menomonie, David (Kelly) Flick of Taylor, William (Sandy) Flick of Alma Center, Edward Flick of Eau Claire; sister Rose Flick (Sally) of Holman; close nieces, Patti Gaede (Mike Laufenberg) of Fairchild and Debbie Gaede of Tomah; dear friend to Don and Sarah, Ray “Cheap Jeep” of Eau Claire; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
