Frances Dorothy Haiden, known to everyone as Fran, passed away at her home on Friday evening, February 9, 2024, in Cleveland Township, rural Fairchild, WI. She was surrounded by her loving husband, sons and daughter-in-law.
Fran was only recently diagnosed with a terminal illness but with the help of her family, Dr. Tiffany and the staff of Mayo Home Hospice she was able to pass away at home where she wanted to be. She had reached the age of 77 years, 6 months and 16 days.
Fran was born on July 24, 1946, in Chicago, IL, daughter of Hogan and Margaret “Peggy” Czerak. She was raised in Chicago where she graduated high school in 1964. On November 26, 1967, Fran was united in marriage to Rupert Haiden in Chicago, and here they raised their 2 sons until moving to rural Fairchild in 1983. The following year Fran and Rupert purchased Dewey Walker’s Café and Gas Station in Fairchild. The couple remodeled the café and turned the engine repair part of the business into a store but continued to sell gasoline. After 12 and half years of owning and operating the Sunrise Café they sold the business and from then on Fran was very content to stay at home.
Having worked in the restaurant business all of her life, she now had time for herself. She enjoyed the quiet location where they lived and spent countless hours with their dogs and watching the wildlife, especially all the birds that flocked to the feeders. Her favorites were the hummingbirds, orioles and indigo bunting, but there really wasn’t a bird she was fascinated by. She also enjoyed crocheting and took pleasure in being able to give her beautiful homemade afghans to all of her family and friends here and abroad. Reading was also one of her favorite pastimes and over the years she collected a vast variety of novels.
With Rupert and also with family and friends she traveled to Europe several times and spent many extended vacations in Rupert’s birth country of Austria. She was also fortunate to have visited many of the states, especially when riding in the semi with Rupert on several of his coast to coast trips.
Fran will be deeply missed by Rupert, her loving husband of 56 years; 2 sons, Joseph Haiden of Knoxville, TN, Charlie (Laura) Haiden of Glen Ellyn, IL; 3 granddaughters, Danielle (Adam) Lollis of Alabama, Samantha Haiden of Glen Ellyn, and Jennifer Haiden of Carol Stream, IL; and close friends Jack and Judy Kolar of Fairchild. Fran was preceded in death by her parents.
Fran’s family would like to thank Dr. Brahm Tiffany, Mayo Home Hospice and the Kolars for helping them through this extremely difficult time in their lives. Your thoughtfulness will never be forgotten.
At this time no formal services are being planned. Burial will eventually be held in the Town of Cleveland Cemetery, rural Fairchild.
The family is assisted by the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
