Gordon Vernon Hamman, age 74, formerly of rural Boyd, passed away Monday February 19, 2024, at his apartment in Stanley.
Gordy was born October 9, 1949, the son of William “Dutch” and Lileth (Tarbox) Hamman. He was raised with his 4 brothers and 2 sisters in Wilson Township, rural Boyd, WI. He attended Evergreen Country School, Augusta High School and went on to receive his G.E.D.
Gordy enlisted in the U.S. Navy and after his honorable discharge he returned to the Boyd area.
Gordy had been employed by the Soo-Line Railroad, Ashley Furniture and he eventually owned and operated Mountain Man Communication, where he was an independent under wiring contractor for fiber optic companies. He worked in this capacity until his retirement.
Gordy was united in marriage to Joey Ford and in August of 2023 the couple celebrated their 50th. Anniversary.
Gordy loved being outdoors and was avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed riding throughout the countryside, often taking the long way to town and for the past 11 years enjoyed doing this in his jeep. He also looked forward to spending time with his family and friends.
After suffering ill health he moved 8 years ago into the city of Augusta before moving to his current apartment in Stanley.
Gordy will be deeply missed by his wife Joey of Cadott; 2 sisters, Phyllis (Don) Petznick of Osseo, Lorraine Schmidt of Augusta; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gordy was preceded in death by his father Dutch in 1974; mother Lileth in 2006; and brothers, Albert in 1991, Donald in 1998, Kenneth in 1998 and Bob in 2021.
A Celebration of Gordy’s life will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, where a time of reflection will be held during the visitation at 4:00 p.m. Saturday.
