Robert Mielkie
Robert Norman Mielkie, son of Otto William Mielkie and Alma Bann Mielkie, was born April 24, 1935 in Eau Claire County, Lincoln Township. He was baptized on May 12, 1935, by Rev. Bourgdorf, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Foster. He also attended Sunday School at St. Peter’s and went on to be confirmed there on December 18, 1949, by Pastor Goestch.

Robert was a life long member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and had served in various church offices. He attended Russell Corner Country School. He had been active in 4-H and was a member of the Wisconsin State Historical Society. Robert moved with his family to Otter Creek Township, rural Augusta in 1940, and he and his brother farmed this land most of the 66 years they lived there. He enjoyed the fieldwork and also enjoyed working with the Belgium draft horses. Robert’s brother Lyman passed away on March 1, 2006, and shortly after that he and his sister, Marion Mielkie moved to the Augusta Area Nursing Home. In August of 2008, Bob transferred his church membership to Grace Lutheran Church in Augusta. Bob entered Palmer House in Augusta on July 1, 2013, before moving into the Silver Leaf Assisted Living in Augusta and eventually in the Augusta Health and Rehabilitation.

Bob enjoyed his involvement with the local choir known as One Voice and with the Men’s Choir at Grace Lutheran Church. Even though Bob had a very difficult time speaking, he had an amazing singing voice. Over the years he enjoyed taking drives with his siblings and stopping off for treats along the way and in later years appreciated any opportunity he had to continue this tradition with his friends.

While at the assisted living and nursing home he enjoyed socializing, participating in most of their activities and especially enjoyed when musicians came in, as he loved to dance and the staff were always willing to be his dance partner. He also enjoyed working puzzles and loved winning whenever any game was being played. Every night before bed he faithfully read his bible and over the years had read it through many times, as his faith was a very important aspect of his life.

Bob was in hospice care for a short time and passed away peacefully at Augusta Health and Rehabilitation on Sunday afternoon, August 11, 2024, reaching the age of 89 years, 3 months and 18 days.

He is survived by 1 nieces Carol Cera and her family; special friends and caregivers throughout the years, Jeff and Dawn Messerschmidt and Ron and Ginger Wilkinson all of Augusta.

Bob was preceded in death by his father Otto in 1946, mother Alma in 1984, 2 sisters Delores Manor in 2004, Marion Mielkie in 2014, brothers Russell in infancy and Lyman in 2006; and niece Renee Frick in 2013.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, with Pastor Wessel officiating.
