Betty Jean Olkives (January) 84, of Augusta, WI passed away in her home surrounded by the love of her family on May 17. She was born on May 26 of 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to Delilah (McCrae) and Ernest January.
Betty met the love of her life Arnie, while ice skating on Crystal Lake. They were married January 9th of 1960 in Kenosha WI. Arnie was truly the love of her life and the love they shared is something all of us should strive for. Together they were married for 64 years and created a beautiful family. In 1962 their daughter Theresa was born followed by Wendy in 1964.
Betty was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and Nana. She was loved by many and treasured by all who knew her. Faith and family meant everything to Betty and the holidays always meant a beautiful meal with many desserts, laughter and so much love. She went to every school event for her children and grandchildren, no matter how small and became an instant mom and grandmother to all, bringing her chocolate chip cookies, infectious smile, love and hugs.
Betty is survived by her husband Arnie, daughters Theresa (Mark) Wheeler and Wendy Travis; brothers Ernie and Ronald January; brother-in-law Rev. William Jannusch; sister-in-law Marion January; Turkish sons Murat (Selen) Kazaz and Ozgur (Berna) Serin and their families; granddaughter, Alisa Richards (Kelly Monson); grandsons, William (Courtney) Wheeler, and Caleb Travis; great grandchildren, Owen, Wyatt and Arlo Richards, Iseley Wheeler and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
She is proceeded in death by her sister Sally January, brother Bob January, sister-in-law Elise January, Carolyn Olkives, brothers-in-law Neal and Allen Olkives.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Lily Hospice for their exceptional care and love for Betty and her family, especially Nurse Amy, Chaplain Nancy and Karlin.
A visitation will be held Friday, May 24, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta, where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, conducted by Pastor Cheryl Miskimen.
Burial will be in the Gleason Cemetery in Gleason, WI.
