Delilah Phemister
Delilah Marie (Johnson) Phemister, 73, of Grayslake, IL passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

Delilah was born on July 6, 1951, in Eau Claire, WI to Harold Emil Johnson and Jeanette Jean Johnson. She attended Zion Benton Township High School in Zion, IL, and graduated with the class of 1969. She married in 1972 and went on to have two children.

Until her retirement in 2021, Delilah had a thriving career as a talented hairdresser working at various locations in the North Shore, IL area. Over her 50-year career, she had the privilege of building meaningful relationships with her clients, helping them celebrate milestones—from children's first haircuts to prom preparations and weddings—and later assisting those same clients with hair care for growing families of their own.

A loving and dedicated daughter and mother, Delilah deeply valued time spent with her family and was committed to creating lasting traditions and memories. She organized annual summer vacations in Wisconsin where she rented houses and invited her children’s friends to join in the fun. She hosted festive holiday gatherings, welcoming all loved ones and any friends without family to celebrate with open arms. These gatherings always included playing cards and lots of laughter around the kitchen table after dinner. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she filled the season with magic, taking pride in decorating her home and spreading happiness. Her legacy is defined by her kindness and inclusiveness to everyone she met.

Delilah was preceded in death by her brother Nathan Johnson (1976),father Harold Johnson (1995), and mother Jeanette Johnson (2006). She is survived by her daughter Breyen (John) Tsokolas of Barrington, IL, son Michael Phemister of Pleasant Prairie, WI, and nephew Erik Johnson of Ladysmith, WI.

The family would like to thank their friends and loved ones for the emotional support they’ve provided during this difficult time. She will be missed beyond words.

A private service will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, and Delilah will be laid to rest with family at West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta, WI.

The family is assisted by Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
