Donald Pieper, 78, of Brackett, WI, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday afternoon, July 22, 2024, at the home of his son and his family.
Donald Joseph Pieper, one of 15 brothers and sisters was born in Arcadia, WI, on March 14, 1946. He was the son of Alfred and Mary (Patzner) Pieper and grew up on the family farm in Dover, MN. He was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1964. After high school he farmed, hauled milk in St. Charles, MN, and had also worked at Rochester Silo.
In February of 1976, Don moved to his present home in Brackett, WI, where he operated a dairy farm. After he was diagnosed with cancer 19 years ago, Don thought it was time to travel and especially enjoyed his winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. He would leave home after celebrating Christmas with the Pieper family and return after Easter. While there he developed close friendship with many people from the mid west and Canada, enjoyed polka dancing and attending Sunday mass. He loved 4-wheeling which he did extensively while touring the Grand Canyon and had the opportunity to travel it completely 8 or 9 times.
Don will be dearly missed by his 2 sons, Joseph Pieper and Derek (Heather) Pieper all of Brackett, WI; 4 daughters, Marcy Storm of St. Charles, MN, Missy (Tim) Welsh, Kelly (Donald) Schaefer, Sara (Jason) Kieffer all of Eyota, MN; 21 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; siblings, Jane (Duane) Hinrichs, Joni (Don) Yankowiak, Marjorie Asleson, Janice (Jim) Halfman, Gerald (Mary) Pieper, Alfred JR (Judy) Pieper, Mary Pieper,Thomas (Joan) Pieper,Susan (Lyman) Kurth, Kevin (Jaime) Pieper, Judith (Dennis) Van Keulen; and Willie his faithful Australian Shepherd.
Don was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Mary; son Chad Pieper; a great grandson; brother Leonard Pieper; sisters, Genevieve in infancy and Frances Grebin: brother-in- law Archie Asleson; and 2 nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at noon at St. Raymond’s Catholic Church in Brackett, WI, with Father Greg Bohren officiating.
Burial will be at Holy Guardian Angels Cemetery, Brackett, WI.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the church on Tuesday, a lunch will be served after the burial.
