Gordon Swatzina
Gordon Swatzina, 75, of Eau Claire, formerly of Augusta passed away early Monday morning, September 9, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. 

Gordon Phillip Swatzina, son of Ferdinand “Fritz” and Agnes (Kyle) Swatzina was born May 25, 1949, in Stanley, and it was there that he was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was raised in Colburn Township in Chippewa County, rural Stanley. Gordy attended Sunnyview Country School and graduated from Gilman High School in 1967.  
After graduation Gordy moved to Milwaukee where for 5 years he worked as the breakfast manger at Marc’s Big Boy in Watosa.  

He served 2 years in the U.S. Army as a reconnaissance scout on the border between East and West Germany. Following his honorable discharge he returned back to Stanley and worked as an orderly at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chippewa. He also passed the state board for E.M.T. training and in addition to working at the hospital he also worked for the Chippewa Area Ambulance.  

From 1972 until 1987 he worked at the Chippewa County Healthcare Center. He then took a job at Central Center in Madison and one year later was able to transfer his position to Northern Wisconsin Care Center, where he worked 20 years until his retirement. 

On Oct. 5, 1974, Gordy was united in marriage to Doris Blum at St. Charles Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls. To this union their 4 children were born. Gordy had lived in Chippewa Falls before moving to Ludington Township, rural Augusta in 1982. In 1992 he moved to the city of Augusta and in 2021 he moved to Eau Claire.  

Gordy had been a member of Beautify Augusta, he served as the president of the Augusta Music Parents, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, had been a member of the Augusta Lions Club, and was an active member of St. James Greater Catholic Church in Eau Claire.

Gordy will be remembered for being an excellent cook and baker and was his happiest when sharing his creations with others. He also had a special place in his heart for the various basset hounds that he had throughout his life. 

Gordy will be dearly missed by his 4 children, Heather (Dale) Randall Jr., Scott Swatzina (Patty Lange) all of Augusta, Kent (Melissa) Swatzina of Eau Claire; Danielle Swatzina (Adam Prince) of Chippewa Falls; 5 grandchildren, Katelyn (Micky) Kott, Devin and Ethan Randall, Jayden Belhing, and Ellie Prince, 2 great grandchildren, Jake and Bennett Kott; brother Gregory (Carol) Swatzina of Reedsville, Maxine Swatzina of Eau Claire; several nieces and nephews. 

Gordy was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Peyton Swatzina; and siblings, Cecilia LeClaire, Theodore and Victor Swatzina.  

Visitation will be held Sunday, Sept 15, 2024, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta. 

Funeral mass will be held Monday at noon at St. James the Greater Catholic Church in Eau Claire with visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Calvary Mausoleum
