Arnold Tallman
Arnold LaVerne Tallman of rural Augusta passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024, in the care of St. Croix Hospice and with his supportive family by his side.

Arnold, son of Claude and Cora (Bunnell) Tallman was born April 6, 1934, and he was so looking forward to his 90th birthday just 2 weeks away. Arnold was born and spent the first 5 years of his life in Prairie Lake, WI. The family then moved to the State of Washington where they stayed a short time before moving back to Wisconsin, settling in the Chetek area where Arnold graduated from Chetek High School. While in high school he worked for an appliance dealer as a delivery man. After he graduated he, along with his sister Lovie and her husband moved to Andover, Ohio, and was immediately hired at Mullen Manufacturing where they made mortar casings for the military. While at Mullen’s he met Rosemary Mielke and the two later married on July 30th, 1955.

Arnold eventually ventured into the grocery business, working for A&P Grocery before managing Golden Dawn Grocery Store. He was also employed as electrician for the Pennsylvania Central Railroad before taking a position with Central Petroleum. For 25 years, until he retired, he worked in sales for the petroleum company in Ohio and also in Wisconsin after moving to Augusta.

In March of 1974, Arnold moved his family to Lake Eau Claire just north of Augusta and four years later they established Whispering Pines Campground which they operated until 1992.

Arnold was a true “handyman” as he often took on carpentry, electrical and any other projects that came along at home and in the campground. Living next to the lake he especially enjoyed fishing and hunting as often as he could and always had time to watch the abundant wildlife and feed the many birds that frequented his feeders.

Arnold will be dearly missed by Rosemary, his loving wife of 69 years; 2 daughters, Rosann (Steven) Dickinsen, Vickie (Ray Lee) Albrecht; 2 sons, Dan Tallman (Audra Christopher), Allen Tallman (Rhonda Brant); and loved as a son, Bill (Gayle) Anderson and his family. He is furthered survived by his 4 beloved grandchildren, Carissa (Wally) Apland, Amanda (Brent) Konop, Christopher Lemke, Autumn Tallman (Mike Anderson); 6 great grandchildren, Trinity Mayzek, Oriah Anderson, Gabe and Violet Konop, Estelle and Elliot Apland; one great great granddaughter Mayleigh Mayzek; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Arnold was also preceded in death by his grandson Stevie Dickinsen; brothers, Manley, Lester, Floyd and Earl Tallman and Lornie in infancy; also by 4 sisters, Lucille Smith, Zora “Lovie” Burns, Mary Amans and Ardie Fitzgerald.

A viewing and visitation will be held Monday, April 8, 2024, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.

A family graveside service will be held at the Ludington Annex Cemetery on County Road N, east of Fall Creek.
