Connie Wathke, 77, of Brackett, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024, at Prairie Point in Altoona, following an eight-month battle with cancer. She passed away surrounded by her loving family and also in the care of Mayo Hospice and the staff at Prairie Pointe Assisted Living.
Constance Jean, daughter of Eugene and Mildred (Deilke) Bowe was born July 8, 1946. She was raised with her siblings in Eau Claire, baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith, attended Sam Davey Elementary School, and graduated from Regis High School in 1964. Following her graduation, she attended Eau Claire Cosmetology School and worked as a beautician in Eau Claire.
Connie was united in marriage to David Wathke on August 6, 1966, at Holy Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Brackett.
The couple lived in Eau Claire for 3 years before moving to their current home in Brackett where they raised their children. After her children were old enough, Connie re-entered the workforce, working for Sears, J.C. Penny’s, Bowmar Appraisal, and finally at Castle Rock Cheese in Foster.
It was important to Connie to give back to her Brackett community. For 58 years she was an active member with the Brackett American Legion Auxiliary Post 550, having served the post in various offices and on numerous committees. Connie was also a long-time member of the Bracketteers Snowmobile Club.
Connie was a member of St. Raymond’s Catholic Church and enjoyed helping with the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry, and volunteering in the church library.
Her family and friends have always meant the world to her. Connie enjoyed watching her children's and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. She was also a loyal Green Bay Packer fan and could frequently be found watching the game with friends and family at the Brackett Legion, where every Packer score was celebrated by Connie ringing her cowbell!
Connie will be dearly missed by Dave, her loving husband of 57 years; son Dean (Vicky) Wathke of Wilton; daughter Brenda (Brad) Kehoe of Ham Lake, MN; 4 grandchildren, Dillan Wathke, Faith Wathke (Hunter Young), Emily Kehoe and Amanda Kehoe; sister Kathy (Art) Smith of Cadott; and brother Terry (Gale) Bowe of Plymouth, MN.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Mildred; and sister Judith in infancy.
The family would like to thank the Mayo Hospice team and Grace Lutheran Prairie Pointe Assisted Living for the loving care they gave Connie.
A mass of Christian burial (Memorial Service) will be held Monday, July 1, 2024, at noon at St. Raymond’s Church in Brackett, Father Greg Bohren will officiate.
